Real Time Operations

The Memo Diagnostic allows for real-time scanning of pulse waves. This new approach to blood pressure measurement relies on High Definition Oscillometry. This real time visualisation of pulse waves can be viewed on screen when the unit is linked to a PC or stored for future analysis. Multiple measurement data and related average value display can be stored on files. This enables posterior local or remote evaluation of the data.

32 bit technology allows for a specific programming of the valve over a pressure range of 5 to 450 mmHg which achieves an optimisation of the signal identification with

  • Real time scanning
  • Real time regulation of the valve and
  • Real time analysis of the measurements taken

The main important parameters for accurate readings - linearity and speed - are ensured only by HDO technology

The unit measures the oscillations of the artery while it opens up again
(picture shows typical pattern) to obtain systolic, diastolic, mean arterial pressure and pulse readings

The fast 32 Bit computer processors are much faster than the usual 8-bit units currently on the market). Specifically developed electronically controlled valves (unique feature worldwide) enable accurate readings ranging from 5 to 300mmHg (compared to 70-160mmHg to be found in other current models).

Pressures below 80mmHg and above 160 mmHg are the main focus when measuring blood pressure.

A new “linearity” algorithm specifically designed for veterinary application features interpretation and artifact removal whereas all other devices use adapted human data.

Benefits of 32-bit technology

  • 8 and 16 bit processors are in no position to offer real time signal identification, signal analysis and thus valve programming
  • 32-bit processor technology allows for signal analysis in microseconds

Owing to its brand-new technology the device can analyse and record data in microseconds (10,000 calculations per second). In a few words, the unit is:

  • Fast
  • Sensitive
  • Accurate
  • Simple to use

A high scan rate is crucial:

  • to identify even very fast pulses (as from a small artery) because these alter the shape of the amplitude
  • to identify different shapes in high speed.
  • High speed analysis allows for the detection of arrhythmias whereas slow 8 bit units cannot measure in such situations

Sensitivity

The cuffs and sensors can be used for the recording of pulse vibrations in rat arteries and the measurement of pulse rates up to 420 bpm. This means that it is reliable and sensitive enough for the measurement of cat blood pressure with cuffs placed below the elbow and on the tail. The sensitivity of the sensors is 10,000X more accurate than the human ear. This readings achvieved with this unit are repeatable and non-subjective results.

The real-time scanning can be visualised on a PC screen and each individual wave can be monitored. The algorithm is capable of capturing all of the relevant data and ignores all pre-programmed artifacts. The results of the system show a significant degree of correlation with invasive techniques currently called the "gold standard".

Linearity

  • Accuracy very much depends on the linearity of the deflation curve
  • Valves are produced to offer linearity only in the range of 160 – 80 mmHg
  • Programming a valve towards a linearity over the entire pressure range can offer accuracy in all pressure areas
