For early detection of diseases associated with high blood pressure
Blood pressure measurement is an important and indispensable component of the clinical examination, especially in geriatric veterinary medicine, it provides important medical data that helps you to establish the diagnosis. Because of its parallels to human blood pressure measurement, this simple and non-invasive method is also highly accepted by the animal owners.
Should include additional measures along with the medicament therapy (ACE-blockers, Ca-blockers, ß-blockers, etc.) Diets have an important role to remedy the root of the disease and to reduce the weight which has an indirect effect upon the blood pressure. An optimised ratio between Omega 6/Omega 3 fatty acids of 5:1 (Brown et al. 1998) will even directly reduce the blood pressure (intraglomerular pressure reduction) and this is particularly important to protect the kidneys.
